Learn more about Akoha
“Invite a friend for coffee” is just one of the many Akoha missions. Other mission cards include activities like “Donate an hour of your time”, “Give someone a book”, and “Send drinks to a couple in love”. Many more missions are constantly being added as the community and the game grow.

Yeah, it is pretty cool. We should take this moment to admit this is a conceptual markup. Our 3D imaging satellites aren’t launched into space yet, so the current images look more like Google Maps.

Karma points are like experience points. Before launching in 2009, we’ll be adding new game features including badges, rewards, and virtual currency. We’ll also be improving our scoring system. So beta players should be prepared to see some changes as the game evolves. We appreciate your help in making sure the game is lots of fun.

We love the idea of taking the game with you wherever you go, which is why barcodes and support for mobile play are a big part of our vision. Although the current mission cards don’t have barcodes on them, we’ve developed an iPhone app and barcode scanning capabilities that we’ll be testing with a small group of beta players prior to the game’s release in 2009. Once the game’s released, you’ll be able to enjoy mobile play wherever you are.

Initially, decks of Akoha mission cards can be ordered through the Akoha store. In the future, you’ll be able to customize and order your own Akoha mission decks featuring only the missions you want to play, made just for you, delivered to your home. Special themed decks of Akoha mission cards will also be available in retail locations around the world; for instance, green mission cards to spread environmental acts of kindness.

Although playing creates its own rewards, we also have lots of plans for how points and our upcoming virtual currency can be combined with prizes, partners, sponsors and special event-based tournaments, to make playing Akoha rewarding on many levels.

We know that Akoha is a big, bold and crazy kind of idea. We’re dedicated to investing the time, having the patience, and listening closely to our community of players, to make sure we get this right. The site is currently in beta, as we’re working with a community of playtesters to polish a lot of our rough edges before Akoha is released commercially in 2009.
If you’re intrigued and want to join in the fun, you can sign up to join the beta and get on the list to join the Akoha community. If an Akoha player has already tagged you with an Akoha mission card, the code on the card is your access pass into the Akoha game. So be nice to everyone, because they might just be an Akoha player who can bring you in on the fun!
