In early September, we launched Akoha at TechCrunch50 in San Francisco, the technology conference run by the popular blog TechCrunch. We were lucky enough to share the stage with some amazing startups that launched in 2008 with us. Three months later, it turns out that TechCrunch launched the second edition of their “Crunchies”, awards given to the best startups of the year. Straight from the Crunchies website, “The 2008 Crunchies is our second annual competition and award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the most compelling startups, internet and technology innovations of the year.”
It turns out that we’ve been nominated in the “Most likely to make the world a better place” category. You can vote for us once a day at this URL: http://crunchies2008.techcrunch.com/votes/
It’s the new years! Don’t forget to play it forward!
We’re sending out a big batch of Starter Kits today! Many of you who signed up to Akoha and requested one should be receiving them within a week or so.
Starter Kits stacked and ready to go out!
We’re very excited to our welcome new players to the game!!
What a month! We’ve enjoyed the initial tidal wave of new players, through TechCrunch 50 or by mail, and we’d like to welcome you all to Akoha! We’ve been digesting your feedback and are rolling out changes to make it easier for new users to sign up and play.
We’ve also tweaked the registration, new user and support systems, and have some cool features planned that will allow you to more easily communicate with each other. As a result, you’ll see some announcements from us this week. Also, we have some good news to give to many of those waiting in the beta list about their starter kits.
The first Akoha Starter Kits are in the mail. We don’t know exactly when they’ll show up in mailboxes, but we’re pretty confident that the postal service will get them to you.
I wrote a little message on the first four envelopes for testers who test-ordered from us. Then my hand cramped up. (Ow.) But we still want to thank all of you for playing Akoha and sending us your feedback!
We’ll be stuffing more envelopes and doing more shipments soon. Although we can’t promise exactly when they’ll show up, don’t worry, we’re working as fast as we can!
TechCrunch50 is broadcasting the conference live with their partner UStream which means our fans and supporters can watch our presentation live this morning during the 10:30 Pacific time session on gaming.
We’ve included the live broadcast of the event here. Wish us luck and we look forward to welcoming you into the Akoha community of players soon.
Updated 14:39. Our presentation went really well. If you missed it, you can watch the recorded version below.
@GeekMommy anyhow, keep on spreading the kindness, and don't hesitate to reach out to us/akoha players if you're looking for inspiration :) #2008/12/12
@GeekMommy thanks :) - you've got a great point, and you're totally right. The incentive wont make sense at all to some. #2008/12/12
